Microcosmos
life, the universe, and insects
DISCLAIMER: This site is currently under construction by a beginner. Please have patience, I type slowly but at least I can spell. This site is primarily an outlet to exhibit artworks portraying insects and to share links to the same. Artistic license is almost always applied here because insects are too small and fast.
NO ANIMALS HAVE BEEN HARMED to obtain the near microscopic details. In cases where a specimen won't cooperate or adequate photos can't be found I will not hesitate to play God. Some insects may be entirely fictional, some may be obviously fictional, this is because I can draw whatever I want. If you are an entomologist
please forgive me.

Empusa Pennata
The larval form of an empusid mantis from "Africa" (sorry, thats all I know about the habitat). The function of the crest is not known. The long slender legs and thorax and the thorny projections beneath the abdomen mimic the
thorny bushes it hunts in. An amazing thing about this insect is that it employs nearly the same camouflage as the "walking stick" but of course their evolutionary paths do not cross excepting that they are both hymenoptera.
It is by far the most beautiful in my opinion as it resembles a javanese shadow puppet. This association also conjures a distinct affinity between empusidae and gamelan music. Maybe its just me. I am a freak.
Neurocordia Molesta
Dragonflies have a design you just can't improve upon. I like to try. I used to think they resembled helicopters, now I would have to vote for motorcycles. fast ones. The dragonfly seems to be a
very primitive creature, it hasn't changed remarkably in it's millions of years of production. About ten years ago I thought I saw a U.F.O. In my peripheral vision a bird had come racing around the
corner of a building nearby and darted around the other corner. A blur, but definitely a bird. A few feet behind it in pursuit was a dragonfly that sounded like a harley with no muffler. At the time
I was thinking that it was a miniature spaceship out hunting birds. Now I think it was definitely a dragonfly and definitely the drugs I was on that somehow distorted the sounds of distant traffic.
Two things I can say for sure about it: The dragonfly was absolutely chasing the bird & LSD is not good for you.
